In a recent Pittsburgh Business Times article, UPMC spokesman, Paul Wood said, “Our position has been clear and consistent for the past three years, regardless of who the CEO of Highmark is.”
Wood was responding to the recent announcement made by The Board of Directors of Highmark Health that David Holmberg had been named to replace Dr. William Winkenwerder as CEO at Highmark. According to Wood, UPMC’s intentions are unchanged and they will not sign a contract with Highmark.
The network agreement between UPMC and Highmark is scheduled to expire on 12/31/14. At which time, UPMC facilities will no longer be considered in-network for Highmark health plan members.
